10 Insane Sleep World Records You Need to Know!

If you're interested in sleep, you might be curious about the whacky and weirdest sleep records. Maybe you want to know if your better half's snoring is competition for the loudest snorer in the world. If so, check out our nine mind-boggling sleep records.
From the longest nap ever taken to the shortest amount of time spent sleeping, we have got it all! So, if you're looking for a little bit of motivation to get more sleep in your life, read on!
The Most Epic Sleep World Records
1) The world record for the longest time asleep.
It's hard to pin down the lengthiest sleep (although teenagers can probably give anyone a run for their money!). There isn't an official world record for the longest time asleep because it's hard to differentiate between those who sleep longer due to comas or medical conditions.
However, in 2017, seven-year-oldWyatt Shaw fell asleep for 11 days! After running tests, doctors could not determine what was causing his prolonged nap. He woke up with mild cognitive issues but recovered with the help of anti-seizure medication.
There isn't an official record for the world's longest natural (no stimulants) sleep, but one is for hypnotic sleep.
Hypnotist Peter Powers holds the record for the longest time asleep. He put himself to sleep for straight eight days (188 hours) under hypnosis . However, the record isn't officially acknowledged.
2) The official world record for staying awake is 264.40 hours (11 days 25 minutes), held by Randy Gardner in 1964.
In Jan 1964, 17-year-old Randy Gardner set the world record of going without sleep for 11 days and 25 minutes , breaking the previous record of 260 hours of Tom rounds.
Doctors and researchers closely monitored Gardner's experiment. He did suffer from mild hallucinations and paranoia by the end but made a full recovery. After the experiment, he fell asleep for just 14 hours for a long-needed rest.
A couple of people seem to have broken Randy's world record for staying awake, but these records are unofficial as Guinness Records has stopped monitoring claims of sleep deprivation.
Unofficial records include Maureen Weston from the UK, who went without sleep for 18 days (449 hours) and Toimi Soini from Finland, who didn't sleep for 11 and a half days (276 hours).
4) The world record for falling asleep the fastest.
There is no official achievement or clear winner of a person falling asleep at record speed. I'm sure some of us have fallen asleep in seconds when we're beat.
However, there is a strange world record for ' the fastest person to fall asleep on stage during a live performance '. Cory Cavin holds the record in this unusual category, nodding off on stage during a live performance in17 minutes and 50 seconds.
It was all for a good cause, to raise funds for Parkin's Research. Let's hope the play wasn't too boring!
5) The world record for the longest dream is 3hrs 8 mins.
Dreams take place during a phase of your sleep called REM or Rapid-Eye-Movement. The average person dreams three to four times a night and each dream can last from 30 seconds to as long as 30 minutes. If you ever wake up in the middle of a dream, you know you've just been in the REM stage.
David Powell holds the record of the longest recorded dream, clocking in3 hours and 8 minutes of REM sleep. Our biggest question is, what was he dreaming about?
6) The first person to ever sleep in space was Gherman Titov.
In 1961, Gherman Titov (a Russian cosmonaut) had a 25-hour flight, during which time he would orbit the Earth 27 times . He nodded off and was the first person to ever fall asleep in space.
Titov woke up later to see his arms floating around in front of him without a care in the world. Not a good idea when there is a risk of hitting the controls and switches!
Titov fastened his arms down and slept soundly for the rest of the flight. He had a silent environment with a view of the stars to keep him company. What more could you ask for?
8) The world record for the tallest stack of beds.
The highest stack of mattresses reaches up to7.416 m (24 ft 4 in) in 2021 by BoxDrop in the USA. That's as tall as some trees! Treehouse party, anyone?

9) The world record for the largest blanket fort measured 6,736 square feet.
Everyone loves a good blanket fort. They're cosy, cute, and a safe place to read a book or hide from the world. It seems that Murderboat Productions thought so too, because they built a blanket fort measuring 6,736 s.f. and 146 sq. inches . That's around 2,000 feet larger than the previous record!
It was so big it had five domes and held a party , including a silent disco and a place for yoga. We can only imagine how hot it got inside.
10) The world record for largest sleepover party had 2004 participants.
North West England Brownies set the Guinness World Record for the largest ever sleepover party in 2014 with a whopping 2004 girls participants in the mass slumber at Chester Zoo.
The girls, aged between seven and ten years old, smashed the previous sleepover record of 1626.
